Fall, 2017

Dear Friends,

It’s been another great year at Carr House! Our Sunday afternoon programs and our Saturday morning hikes continue to attract many visitors; so many, in fact, that we’ve set up “live-streaming” of programs to the patio area so we can show the programs outside once we’ve reached seating capacity in the auditorium. Our thanks to Southwest Wings for a grant allowing us to purchase a large monitor for the auditorium, and to Mike Foster, our Carr House host, for his expertise in setting up all this new technology.

We’ve been fortunate to have Gerry and Paula Lucero as site hosts again this summer. Their hard work cleaning up and maintaining Carr House and the surrounding area is invaluable. In addition, Gerry has donated one of his beautiful hand-carved walking sticks for a raffle. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 and are available at Carr House every weekend through October 29. The winner will be announced after the program on October 29. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to help Mike Foster with his planned video on the Huachuca Mountains.

Our last Sunday afternoon program for the year will be Mike’s wonderful and informative “Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)” presentation on Sunday, October 29th. Mike Foster’s old favorite videos and new videos from Sinaloa as well as talks will be given in the auditorium at both 12:30 and 1:30. Educational Day of the Dead videos and displays including open altars will be available all day long throughout the house and outside, and traditional refreshments will be available starting at about 11:30.

Would you be interested in becoming a member of the Board for the Friends of the Huachuca Mountains? We are looking for someone for the position of Recording Secretary. Duties will include attending monthly Board meetings, taking notes, and then distributing the notes to the Board by email. If you are interested, please contact Judy Phillips, timjudy@mac.com, or Carolyn Santucci, carolyns216@gmail.com.

FOHM President Judy Phillips will host a Social Gathering and Annual Meeting at her home, 4958 S. Calle Encina in Sierra Vista, on Sunday, November 19 at 4 p.m. Please feel free to bring light refreshments to share.

Your meeting invitation and ballot for 2018 FOHM officers will be mailed or emailed to you in a few weeks – don’t forget to RSVP and vote!

Remember to renew your membership! Annual dues are $15 for an individual or $25 for a family. You can renew your membership on our website, www.huachucamountains.org, where you’ll also find up-to-date information, newsletters, links to videos posted by Mike Foster all about our beautiful mountains, important dates, and information on upcoming events.

The last weekend to enjoy Carr House for this season will be Thanksgiving weekend, Friday through Sunday, November 24 through 26. We’ll be open all three days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We’ll see you in April!
